		  scrapbooks, and funeral service recording of a professor of Speech</abstract></did><bioghist encodinganalog="5450_" id="a2"><p>Horace Greeley Rahskopf (1898-1984) was born in Olivia, Minnesota. He
		  attended Willamette University and graduated with an A.B. in 1920. He was then
		  was a student of Samuel Silas Curry, renown American professor of elocution and
		  vocal expression, at the Curry School of Expression where he received a Diploma
		  in 1921. He graduated from State University of Iowa with a Master’s degree in
		  1927 and PhD in 1935. </p><p>Professor Rahskopf began his teaching career as an Instructor in
		  English Composition, Speech and Debate at State Normal School, Bellingham, WA
		  (now Western Washington University) 1921-1924. He was a professor of Speech at
		  Willamette University from 1924-1926; Professor of Speech, Illinois Wesleyan
		  University 1925-1927; and began his long professional career at the University
		  of Washington in 1928. Rahskopf served as chairman of the University of
		  Washington Speech Department 1947-1962 and retired as professor emeritus in
		  1968. Over the course of many years he was consultant to the Bureau of
		  Community Development and the In-service Teacher Education program at the
		  University of Washington, and held a number of other notable representative
		  consultantships with the United States Navy, The Boeing Company, Seattle Public
		  Schools and Seattle City Light until his retirement. Among his professional
		  activities, Rahskopf served as president of the Western Speech Association
		  1944-1945 and as president of the Speech Association of America in 1950.</p><p>Rahskopf was the author of numerous articles on speech and wrote
		  several books, including: Basic Speech Improvement and Instructor’s Manual
		  (Harper &amp; Row 1965); “John Quincy Adams’ Theory and Practice of Public
		  Speaking” (Torch Press 1936); and “The Oratory of James Wilson of Pennsylvania
		  1742-1798” (1938). He was also known for his reading of the Charles Dickens’
