Tony Randall (1920-2004) was given his first leading role on Broadway in 1955 with Inherit the Wind. His success in film began in 1957 with Will Success Spoil Rock Hunter? Randall worked prolifically in film throughout the 1960s. His first major television role was as a history teacher on Mister Peepers (1952). After the series ended, he had numerous guest spots on various television shows. Randall continued in these small parts until 1970 when he landed a major role in ABC’s The Odd Couple as Felix Unger. He later starred in The Tony Randall Show (1976) as a Philadelphia judge and in Love, Sidney (1981) as a gay artist.
Collection contains scripts for plays and films that Randall played a part in, including Oscar Brodney’s “The Brass Bottle,” George Bernard Shaw’s “Candida,” and Charles Beaumont’s “The Seven Faces of Dr. Lao”; a biographical professional card with a photo of Randall; a photograph of the cast of “The Brass Bottle” that includes Randall; and a program of the Westport Country Playhouse 1952 season.
There are no access restrictions on the materials for research purposes, and the collection is open to the public.
