  	<head>History of the University of Wyoming. Department of Psychology</head><p>The Psychology Department was formed in 1910 when June E. Downey became the first professor of philosophy and psychology. Downey had published seven books and more than 70 articles before dying in October 1932. Dr. Lillian Portenier joined the Psychology Department in 1930 and investigated student mentality ratings.</p>
  	<p>The Psychology Department's faculty provides broad educational and research experiences to University students on campus as well as throughout the state.</p>

  	<head>Scope and Content</head><p>This collection contains subject files on the department's research and administrative activities, including several publications by Downey and Portenier; newspaper clippings and scrapbooks of the Dionne quintuplets, one of Portenier's research areas.
