Biography of Carl Akers

Carl Akers was born on September 14, 1921 in Denison, Texas. Upon graduating from high school, Ackers joined the military to fight in the Second World War. After leaving the military, he attended the University of Missouri, completing his degree in two and a half years. While in college, Akers worked for a radio station, finding his passion for journalism. He began his career on the radio in Denver, Colorado eventually transitioning into television. In 1953, Akers joined KLZ-TV where he became Denver’s number one broadcaster for over a decade. He left television in 1966 to try his hand at commercial features. After moderate success, he returned to television working for Channel 9 creating documentaries and features. In 1974, he became the Vice President for News and remained in the position until 1986 when he retired. Carl Akers passed away in 1993.
