Donated by Edith and Migliaccio Stover. The diary contains entries related to the start of the Modoc War conflict. Entries were made by an unknown person, possibly involved with the local militia. The following names are frequently mentioned: Captain Jack, L.S. Dyar, and Applegate. Also mentioned are the events such as the Modoc activity and the Peace Commission meeting with Captain Jack. Published by Bancroft's Books and Stationary Company, the diary contains useful memoranda and tables for reference, including a calendar, information specific to the City of San Francisco (the publisher's location), currency exchange rates, bodies of the solar system, the metric system, an almanac, and more. The diary is labeled in a way that indicates it was used in Linkville, Oregon (now Klamath Falls), and later sent to the U.S. Land Office.
