  	<head>Biography of Myrtle Nord</head><p>Myrtle Nord was a freelance writer and publisher. She printed the "Durango Early Times," in newspaper format, as a vehicle for her historical writings on Durango, Colorado, and the San Juan mining camps. She also wrote and published a pamphlet about "Chicken Bill" Lovell, a Leadville, Colorado, character. Her writing concentrated on Colorado mining history, but she also wrote articles about American history for popular history magazines.</p>

  	<head>Scope and Content</head><p>The collection contains manuscripts and research material for Myrtle Nord's articles on American history and on Colorado mining history. Included is a taped interview with John Ferguson about his memories of the Bachelor Mine and the Camp Bird Mine in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado. Also included is research material on the Porter Coal Company of Durango, Colorado, and articles about the Gold King Mine near Silverton, Colorado.</p>
