      <abstract encodinganalog="520$a">The Abrey L. Haines papers include a
		  summary of Haines's Masters of Science (Forestry) thesis on photographic
		  records of national forests, written for The University of Montana--Missoula in
		  1949; together with two copies of his "Notes on the Angus McDonald Gun,"
		  written in Longmire, Washington, (Mount Rainier National Park), in 1954. Angus
		  McDonald was a fur trapper who resided in the Flathead Valley of Montana and
		  died in 1889.</abstract>

    <bioghist encodinganalog="545">
      <p>Abrey Leon Haines was born on August 30, 1914 in Portland, Oregon to
		  Albert S. and Doris E. Haines. He received a B.S.F. in 1938 from the University
		  of Washington and an M.S. F. in 1949 from the University of Montana-Missoula.
		  </p>
      <p>Haines was a park ranger, naturalist, civil engineer, and historian.
		  He worked as a park ranger and naturalist in both Yellowstone and Mount Rainer
		  National Parks. He served as the Yellowstone Park Historian from the 1960s
		  until the mid 1970s. He published eleven books and many articles.</p>
      <p>In 1946 Haines married C. Wilma Smith. He died on September 10,
		  2000.</p>
