Charles E. Whitsett was a United States Air Force officer and NASA engineer who specialized in solutions for effective human movement in zero gravity. He worked on the astronaut maneuvering unit, or manned maneuvering unit (MMU) which enabled satellite rescue and repair. Whitsett and his team received the 1984 Robert J. Collier Trophy for "the greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America" for developing the unit.
The collection includes NASA related materials, research relating to the astronaut maneuvering unit system, LIFE magazines, and photographs.
