Frederic Stanley Dunn (August 5, 1872 - Jan. 7, 1937) was born in Eugene, Oregon to Francis Berrian Dunn and Christiann Cecilia Dunn. He entered the University of Oregon as a sub-freshman in 1885 and received an A.B. degree in 1892. He also completed an A.B. degree at Harvard University in 1894. He married Anna Maude Matthews in 1895 and had two children.

Between 1895 and 1898, he served as Professor of Greek and Latin, and Secretary of the Faculty, at Willamette University. While at Willamette, he organized a Classical Club, a Faculty Lecture Course, and was President of the local Epsworth League, the youth organization of the Methodist Episcopal Church. He also joined the Sons of the American Revolution and received an A.M. degree from the University of Oregon during this period.

In 1898, Dunn returned to Eugene and the University of Oregon, where he worked as a professor of Latin and head of the Latin Department. In 1902 he took a leave of absence and received an A.M. degree from Harvard University in 1903. In 1912, Professor Dunn was elected President of the largest regional Classics association, the Classical Association of the Midwest and South (CAMWS). In 1918 he was assigned by the U.S. Army to teach English to Italian soldiers with the YMCA. After his retirement in 1935, he began to publish a series of articles, mostly on the subject of coins and Julius Caesar. Dunn was also an active member of the Eugene Masonic Lodge Number 11.

In the 1920s, Dunn was a member of the Ku Klux Klan and was the Exalted Cyclops of Eugene Klan No. 3. He worked with the Klan on a campaign to remove all Catholics from local office and remove any Catholic school teachers from public schools.

He died January 7, 1937 in Eugene, Oregon, after a prolonged illness.
