Biographical Note

John R. Park was born May 7, 1833 in Tiffin, Ohio. He received an M.D. degree in 1857 from New York University. Dr. Park arrived in Salt Lake City in 1861. He became President of the University of Deseret in 1869 and held the position until 1892. Dr. Park resigned the presidency in 1892 giving no particular reasons beyond that he had been there for a long time and thought it would be advisable to hand the institution over to younger and more vigorous hands. John R. Park died September 29, 1900.
