The History of Broadwater County is an illustrated narrative of Broadwater County, Montana, and "its people, places and events." Included in the essay are sketches of the towns and communities of Toston, Radersburg, Hassel Winston, Centerville, Canton, Bedford, Diamond City, and White City. Among the nine original photographs used as illustrations are images of the mining ghost towns of Diamond City, Montana, and White City, Montana, taken in 1958 by Heberle, with his notations on the verso. Two images were not taken by Herle and are likely copies of vintage prints. Diamond City was the orignal county seat for Meagher County, Montana Territory; it is now part of Broadwater County, which was established from the eastern portion of Meagher County in 1897. A freshman at Montana State College in the fall of 1958, Haberle was enrolled in a Montana history class for which he wrote this paper, focusing on the county in which his hometown of Townsend, Montana, serves as the county seat.
