Accession No. 5069-001: Washington Citizens for Death with Dignity records, 1990-1994 (bulk 1991-1992) 21.58 cubic feet (22 boxes including 20 sound cassettes and 43 videotapes)

Scope and Content: Correspondence, minutes, financial reports, opposition research files, issue files, audio and videotapes, questionnaires, press releases, media monitoring records, subject series, and clippings.

Records document the effort to pass Initiative 119, the Death with Dignity measure in Washington State in 1991. The initiative, defeated by the Legislature and subsequently by the voters, would have allowed physicians to provide aid in dying to terminally ill patients.

Also includes a handfull of correspondence files and Board Minutes for the organization when it operated as Citizens for Patient Self-Determination.

Restrictions on Access: Open to all users.

Restrictions on Use: Literary rights of representatives of the records-creating organization transferred to the University of Washington Libraries.

 Washington Citizens for Death with Dignity records Accession No. 5069-002: Washington Citizens for Death with Dignity records, 1991 2.42 cubic feet (3 boxes including 36 VHS videotapes and 1 sound cassette)

Scope and Content: Subject series, press releases, clippings, reports, polls, videotapes, financial and other records concerning Initiative 119 in Washington State, 1991.

Included is a Subgroup, Hemlock PAC (small but significant, since it documents the beginnings of the initiative).

Restrictions on Use: Literary rights of representatives of the records-creating organization transferred to the University of Washington Libraries.
