         <p>Dan Wyman Burnside was born in Vermont in 1825. He came to Oregon by way of California in 1852, and settled in Portland. He co-owned a flour mill with Thomas Savier, Savier &amp; Co. After his death, Portland's "B" Street and the corresponding bridge were named after him during the renaming and renumbering of streets in 1892. Due to a misprint by Harvey Scott, some histories have incorrectly named him as David William Burnside.</p>
