Folklore ephemera specific to Utah and the
surrounding area, including folk customs, beliefs, folk groups, material culture,
legends, etc. Items include xeroxes of articles, newspaper clippings, brochures,
programs, and other ephemeral folklore items (approx. 1973 to present)
Collection materials are in English.
Restrictions
Open to public research. To access the collection a patron must have the following
information: collection number, series number, sub-series number, if applicable, box
number and folder number (or image number).

It is the responsibility of the user to obtain permission to publish from the owner of
the copyright (the institution, the creator of the record, the author or his/her
transferees, heirs, legates, or literary executors). The user agrees to indemnify and
hold harmless the Utah State University Libraries, its officers, employees, and agents
from and against all claims made by any person asserting that he or she is an owner of

Permission to publish material from the
Folklore in the news collection must be
obtained from the Curator of the Fife
Folklore Archives and/or the Special Collections Department Head.
Beginning in 1979, Austin and Alta Fife, Professor William A. Wilson and Barbara Garrett selected folklore items from the news of regional interest.
Randy Williams, Fife Folklore Archives Curator created the collection and Fife Folklore Archives staff have continued the collection with folklore
items from a variety of ephemeral sources, including newspapers, magazines, brochures, etc.

Historical Note
The Folklore in the News Collection contains items (many newspaper articles)
that deal with Utah and surrounding areas, including folk customs, beliefs, folk groups,
material culture, legends, etc. The Fife Folklore Archives faculty and staff have
continued the collection with folklore items from a variety of ephemeral sources,
including newspapers, magazines, brochures, etc.

The materials in the Folklore in the News Collection include newspaper clippings,

are housed in acid-free archival boxes and divided into separate folders by genre, with
each item noted therein and stored in USU Special Collections and Archives.
