      <head>Historical Note:</head>
      <p>Women have been enrolled as students at Oregon State University since
its founding in 1868 and a woman, Alice Biddle, was one of the first three
graduates of Corvallis College (the predecessor to OSU) in 1870. The first
Woman's Day was held in 1924 as an opportunity to honor women and mothers;
it was later known as Women's Day (or Weekend) and is now known as Moms
Weekend.</p>

      <p>The 
<title render="italic">Activities of Women</title> Scrapbook consists of
programs, brochures, and announcements for women's activities at Oregon
State College. The activities include gymnastics demonstrations, dance
festivals and performances, pageants, stunt shows, banquets, and teas. A
program for the dedication of the Women's Building is included. Programs
and announcements for the annual Woman's (and Women's) Day activities are
part of the scrapbook.</p>
      <p>The creator of the scrapbook is not identified; it may have been
assembled by staff of the Oregon State College Library.</p>
