It is an account of Hernando de Soto's expedition and journey of Florida. This 1936 partial translation is by Benita Brunson Lewis and Warren H. Wilkinson. Also contained in the collection is a 1945 letter of Warren H. Wilkinson to Albert C. Holt.</abstract>

      <head>Biographical Sketch</head>
      <p>Garcilaso de la Vega (1539-1616), also known as Inca Garcilaso de la Vega, was born in Cusco, Peru, on 12 April, 1539. He was the illegitimate son of Sebastian Garcilaso de la Vega y Vargas (Spanish conquistador) and Isabel Suarez Chimpu Ocllo (Inca nobility). In 1560, Garcilaso travelled to Spain and was educated and in 1570, he entered the Spanish military service and fought against the Moors. Garcilaso de la Vega died on 23 April, 1616, at 77 years of age.</p>

      <p>This is the 1936 partial translation of Garcilaso de la Vega's <title render="italic">La Florida of the Inca</title> by Benita Brunson Lewis and Warren H. Wilkinson. <title render="italic">La Florida of the Inca</title> is an account of Hernando de Soto's expedition and journey of Florida, originally published in Lisbon, Spain, in 1605. It contains chronicles of de Soto's expedition according to information Garcilaso gathered. Also contained in the collection is a 1945 letter of Warren H. Wilkinson to Albert C. Holt.</p>
