      <head>Biographical Sketch</head>
      <p>William Rowley (1798-1870) grew up in England.  He converted to Mormonism and was baptized by John Taylor in 1841.  It was 1843 before he immigrated to the United States, arriving in Nauvoo on 11 November 1843.</p>

    <scopecontent encodinganalog="description">
      <p>The William Rowley papers (1798-1843) include an autobiography by Rowley (1798-1870), a boarding ticket for passage on the <title render="italic">Metoka</title>, two letters, and copies of news articles.  The autobiography deals mainly with his life in England, his various enterprises for earning a living, and his conversion to Mormonism in 1841.  The account ends abruptly at his arrival in Nauvoo.</p>
