      <p>The Mormon History Association was started by the professionally trained Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS) Historian Leonard Arrington. Begun as an affiliate of the American Historical Association in 1965, the MHA became completely independent in 1972. Two years later, the MHA began to publish the <title render="italic">Journal of Mormon History</title>. MHA scholars have published a variety of articles and books documenting the history of the LDS Church and the Reorganized Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (now Community of Christ).</p>
