      <p>Chris Robyn was the first foreign student to complete the Master of Philosophy degree program in the history department at the Chinese University of Hong Kong.</p>

      <p>This collection consists of two copies (original and revision) of Chris Robyn's 1996 dissertation, "Building the Bridge: The Chinese Educational Mission to the United States: A Sino-American Historico-Cultural Synthesis, 1872-1881." The dissertation's cover page explains that it was submitted to The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Graduate School Division of History in partial fulfillment of the requirement for the degree Master of Philosophy. The unpublished typescript includes notes, bibliography, appendices, and illustrations. Each copy is comprised of one volume, with 210 leaves for the original copy, and 217 for the revised version.</p>
