         <head>Biographical Note</head>
         <p>Gloria Skurzynski was born in Duquesne, Pennsylvania on July 6, 1930. She attended Mount Mercy (now Carlow) College from 1948-1950. She is married with five daughters. She has lived in Utah and currently resides in Boise, Idaho.</p>
         <p>A well-known children's author, Skurzynski started writing books in her mid-30s. She authored more than 50 fiction and non-fiction books, including Virtual War, Deadly Waters, Buried Alive, Valley of Death, The Magic Pumpkin, Waves: The Electromagnetic Universe, Sweat and Blood: A History of U.S. Labor Unions, and This Is Rocket Science. She won numerous awards for her books, including the Spur Award, the Golden Kite Award, the Christopher Award, and the Science Book Award from the American Institute of Physics.</p>
