Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Joseph Alliaude Smith was born 1899. He became the export manager and later president of Gwin, White & Prince, Inc., sales managers for shippers of fresh apples and pears in the Wenatchee-Okanogan district. In 1933, Mr. Smith organized the Fruit Express Line of refrigerated ships to expand the Pacific Coast fruit industry's export trade. Smith was co-founder of the Northwest Horticultural Council; past chairman of the Washington State World Trade Commission; member of the Secretary of Agriculture Benson's National Advisory Committee on Agricultural Export and Import Policy and Technical Assistance; co-founder of the World Trade Club of Seattle. Smith died in 1970.
