Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Donald S. Voorhees was a civic activist; an attorney in the Seattle law firm of Riddell, Williams, Voorhees, Ivie and Bullitt; and a U.S. District Court judge. He was a member of the Seattle Board of Park Commissioners (pre-1974) and chaired Citizens for Fort Lawton Park (1968-1970) and the Seattle mayor’s Fort Lawton Park Citizens’ Advisory Committee (1970-1973). Voorhees died in 1989.

The papers concern Vorhees's leadership in an effort to acquire the site of a former Army post in metropolitan Seattle for a city park that later became Discovery Park. Included are correspondence, minutes, reports, speeches and writings, news releases, newsletters, legislation, maps, photographs, plans and proposals, publications, and clippings, 1968-1986.
