Sara Kaplan was born in Pearshall, Texas in 1923. She moved to Washington in 1956 where she is known as an advocate for human rights, race relations, education, and Democrats. March 14, 1993 was proclaimed Sara Kaplan Day by the governor of Washington and Kaplan was honored in the U.S. House of Representatives for her good works by Washington Representative Jolene Unsoeld.
