Video recordings made in Limpopo Province, South Africa, including Venda, Shangaan, Pedi, and Morekolodi/GaRankuwa children.
Transfer of mini-DV originals to digital files and production of work discs (WDs) completed 12/2011 (additional transfers made 2/2015); tape 2009-9.47 (Emberly 4.7) is unplayable (problem with tape or mechanism?) so no work disc (WD) could be produced.
The collection includes "copy 2" compact discs of the following: 2009-9.15, .16, .18, .19, .21, .22, .25, .26, and .27.
NOTE: PRIVATE VIEWING OF 2009-9.30 - 2009-9.36 IS PERMITTED IN THE UW ETHNOMUSICOLOGY ARCHIVES, BUT CLASSROOM/PUBLIC PRESENTATIONS ARE PROHIBITED DUE TO THE SENSITIVE NATURE ON THE CONTENTS.

Dr. Andrea Emberly, from Alberta, Canada, is an ethnomusicologist and an associate professor at York University in Toronto, Ontario. Dr. Emberly earned a BA in music performance at the University of Alberta; an MA in music performance at Illinois State University; and an MA and a PHD in ethnomusicology at the University of Washington. Emberly's research has centered on musical cultures of childhood and how they are shaped by local, national and global influences.
