Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Professor of public affairs, University of Washington; university administrator and dean emeritus. A native of Detroit, Michigan, Hubert Locke began his academic career at Wayne State University. He later served as the first dean of the University of Nebraska's College of Public Affairs and Community Service (1972-1976). He joined the University of Washington faculty in 1976 as public affairs professor and served concurrently in several administrative positions, including associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences (1976-1977), vice provost for academic affairs (1977-1982) and dean of the Graduate School of Public Affairs (1982-1988). Locke has also been appointed to adjunct teaching positions at the University as professor of comparative religion and professor of Jewish Studies. His research and writing have focussed on managment and policy issues in American policing. He has also participated in scholarly forums and published works on the experiences of German society during the era of National Socialism.
