Historical NoteReturn to Top

Robert Gregg Koester (1932-) is the founder and owner of Delmark records, which is the oldest jazz and blues independent record label in the US. Koester grew up in Wichita, Kansas during the big band era of jazz music. As a high-schooler, he collected and traded records. During his time at Saint Louis University, where he studied cinematography and business, he sold records by mail from his dorm room. Koester's Delmark Records, originally called Delmar records, created its first recording in 1953. In 1996, Koester was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame.
