Biographical NoteReturn to Top

During World War II, Alexis A. Alvey was a Commissioned Executive Officer in the Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service, later training in the first class of WRENS, an auxiliary to the British Navy. She was stationed in Halifax, Nova Scotia and attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander. In 1946, Alvey returned to Seattle and worked at the U.W. Libraries in the Acquisitions Division, Suzzallo Library, retiring in 1969. She died in Seattle in 1996.

Scope and Content: Writings, photographs, manuscripts of others, naval ephemera, insignia.

A subgroup within these papers documents the career of Alvey's mother as a writer and artist. Included are bound typescripts, vanity press and published first editions of books by Eva Louise Alvey Richards. Also included are some of Richards' watercolors.
