Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Kreielsheimer Foundation was established in the late 1970s from joint bequests of the estates of Leo T. Kreielsheimer (d. 1975) and of his wife, Greye McCormick Kreielsheimer (d. 1980). Kreielsheimer’s will specified that the Foundation must conclude its active philanthropic grants 25 years after his death. Between 1981 and 2000, when the Foundation ceased its active granting activity in accordance with the terms of the Kreielsheimer bequest, the Foundation distributed over $100 million in support of the arts and education throughout the Washington State, in particular the Puget Sound Region, and Alaska. Administration of the Kreielsheimer Foundation was entrusted to two trustees: Seafirst Bank (later Bank of America), and one individual trustee. Charles F. Osborn, Leo Kreielsheimer’s personal attorney, served in this capacity from the time the Foundation was established until his death 1992. His successor, also specifically named in Leo Kreielsheimer’s will, was Donald L. Johnson, who oversaw Foundation activities from 1992 through 2000.
