Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Walter Isaacs (1886-1964) studied art at the Academie Colorossin in Paris during the 1920s. He came to the UW at the invitation of Henry Suzzallo the University President. He was the chairman of the Department of Painting, Sculpture and Design. He also continued his painting career sepcializing in portraits and interiors. He was a member of the Seattle Group of Twelve, a group of modernist artists that became notable in the 1930s. The membership of this group included Morris Graves, Kenneth Callahan among others.
