Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Business and Economic Development Program utilizes the resources of the University of Washington's School of Business Administration to assist the development of small businesses in economically distressed or emerging communities and provide students with learning experiences and skills. The program has created and retained a number of jobs in Seattle's Central Area, Rainer Valley, Chinatown/International District, White Center, South Park, and Beacon Hill communities and in Lower Yakima Valley communities in Central Washington. The BEDP was founded and continues to be sustained through a partnership between community-based organizations, corporations, professional associations, small business owners, elected officials, and the UW Business School. The program is guided in its work by an Advisory Board comprised of leaders from these organizations and is funded exclusively by contributions from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
