Miles Pratt Romney was deeply involved with mining in Utah during the 1940s and 1950s. This collection contains portraits of Romney, Janice Cahoon Romney, progenitors and other family relations, and snapshots from a family trip to St. George and Mexico. The Miles Romney collection also contains a photo album filled with images taken during Romney's service as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in South Africa.

Historical NoteReturn to Top

Miles Pratt Romney (1903-1980) was born in Colonial Dublan in Chihuahua, Mexico. He was raised there until the Revolution in Mexico and his family was driven out of the country in 1912. Miles Park Romney, his grandfather, was one of the original settlers of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints colonies in Mexico. Romney was president of the United Park Mines Company and a professional geologist and amateur archaeologist. Romney received a bachelor's degree from the University of Utah in 1935. Romney died 9 December 1980 after a long illness.
