Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Born in Iowa, educated in Indiana common schools. Lawyer, moved to Washington Territory in 1853, and appointed governor in 1861, but did not qualify because he was a Republican delegate of Washington Territory to 37th Congress (1861-1865). Served as a delegate of Idaho Territory (1864-65). He died in Stellacoom, Pierce County, Wash.
