Historical NoteReturn to Top

Right to Privacy Political Action Committee was a lesbian and gay organization formed in 1982 in Portland, Oregon, by members of Portland Town Council, which flourished in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Among the founders was John E. Baker, who served as the chairman of the board. A press release of July 8, 1987, stated, "Right to Privacy, the state's eighth largest political action committee, supports candidates on the basis of their positions on the following key issues: civil rights for lesbians and gay men, a woman's right to choose abortion, the Equal Rights Amendment, and public policy related to the AIDs crisis." The group actively raised money in support of candidates; sponsored the annual Lucille Hart fundraising dinner; and also held a garden party leading up the this event.
