Historical NoteReturn to Top
Clayton Sumner Price was born in Bedford Iowa on May 11, 1874. The oldest son of a homesteading family, Price spent his childhood learning to ranch. In 1886 the Price family moved to Sherridan, Wyoming and began raising livestock. Price displayed a familial ability for crafting and creating; he played fiddle, assisted in the construction of out-buildings, and designed a washing machine for his mother to use. By the age of 35, Price was recognized as an accomplished painter and illustrator.
Edith Price Walford was born on March 6, 1912. When cards came in the mail from her uncle, C.S. Price, she took great interest in them and struck up a correspondence with him. When she entered high school Walford took an art class every term. One of her creations was used in her 1931 high school yearbook. She went on to work at the Bonneville Power Administration She remained with the BPA for the rest of her career. Walford died February 5, 1973 at the age of 60.
Donald Cook was the great-nephew of Price, and the son of author Frances Price Cook.
