Historical NoteReturn to Top

William Porter (1812-1899) was an Oregon pioneer who settled in Aumsville, Oregon. He was born in Lincoln County, Montana in 1812 and moved to Illinois in 1836. When he was 19 he entered Illinois College, where he spent four years obtaining an education. He then taught school until moving to Oregon in 1848, where he continued to teach for a number of years.
