The draft prospectus for the book, Destiny to Fly contains information on intent, chapter contents, speculation on the importance of the work, marketing suggestions, and Mr. Engen's personal thoughts.

The draft revision Destiny to Fly dated 8-6-96 contains a handwritten note from Mr. Engen to Dr. Gregory Thompson on the title page.

The draft revision Destiny to Fly dated March 16, 1997 is accompanied by a letter from Mr. Engen to Dr. Thompson dated March 17, 1997. Also included is the contribution agreement between Mr. Engen and the Alf Engen Ski Museum Foundation specifying proceeds distribution.

Letters of support, editorial suggestion, and review for the book (title varies) are included here, as are documents regarding publishing costs and a sample book jacket. A photocopy of the signed testimonial of support from Alf Engen, Sverre Engen, and Corey Engen is included in this folder.

This folder includes a rough and final draft of a pamphlet written by Alf and Alan Engen entitled, "An Approach to Ski Preparation and Ski Racing." This pamphlet was used in conjunction with ski classes taught by the Engens.

This box contains a finalized manuscript copy of For the Love of Skiing

This piece of artwork first appeared in the Deseret News in 1973. It highlights the achievements of the Deseret News Ski School in its first twenty-five years. The sketching is signed Chasnik.

This pencil sketch depicts a Viking Ship on the ocean. It is signed "September 18 [19]40 Jos. A. F. Everett."

This scrapbook highlights many of the skiing events and competitions that Alan's father, Alf Engen, was involved in. The scrapbook consists of newspaper clippings from The Deseret News and The Salt Lake Tribune.

This scrapbook focuses on the development of skiing and ski jumping that the Engen family was directly involved with.

This box contains copies of The Deseret News and The Salt Lake Tribune collected by Alan Engen during the 2002 Winter Olympic Games held in Salt Lake City, Utah.

This box contains the first proof of For the Love of Skiing sent to Alan Engen by Gibbs-Smith Publishers on 27 July 1998.

This sketch entitled, "Alf Engen jumper, racer, coach, teacher & director who taught us about skiing. You helped us establish our roots and inspired us. We offer our thanks, gratitude and respect...4th Annual Veteran Ski Instructors' Reunion December 14, 1991 Park City, Utah" depicts Alf Engen as a young man.

Boxes 21-33 contain a series of ski history scrapbooks entitled, "Skiing a Historical Snapshot" that Alan Engen prepared. In this first volume of the scrapbook, Engen traces the mythological and historical origins of skiing until the modern era of skiing begins. Engen's goal was to document as completely as possible the entire history and development of skiing. While references are made to international events through newspaper clippings, the scrapbooks focus mostly on skiing events that occurred in and around the Intermountain West.

This poster features the autographs of the members of the 1999 University of Utah NCAA Ski Team.

Included these folders are information sheets from interviews that Alan Engen Conducted. The information sheets and accompanying materials are arranged alphabetically by the last name of the interviewee. The interviewees include: John Bower, Jim Gaddis, Harold Goodro, Pat Miller, Dick Movitz, Suzy Harris Ryting, Bill Leavitt, and Bill Spencer. Engen conducted each interview in 1996. Summaries of oral interviews are provided, however there are no complete transcripts of the interviews.

Engen gathered the materials within this folder while in Ishpeming, Michigan; as he attended a ceremony, held 28 January 2005, celebrating his induction into the United States National Ski Hall of Fame. Included in this folder are notes from his acceptance speech, newspaper articles about the event, and a program from the Thirty-second Annual Induction Ceremony of the U.S. National Ski Hall of Fame.

This folder contains photocopies of portraits of various skiing greats. Much of this material can also be found in boxes 21-33.
