The Washington Wilderness Coalition is a Seattle environmental organization that was incorporated in 1979. It is an association which works to protect public lands in the state of Washington. The first co-directors were Karen Fant and Ken Gersten. In February of 1984, Karen Fant became executive director. She served until April 1990.

The records, dating from 1979 to 1990, consist primarily of the correspondence, minutes, legislation, maps, and other records of founding co-director Karen Fant. The records document various environmental issues in Washington State during the 1980s. Included are materials documenting forest planning and timber sales in national forests in Eastern Washington, wilderness legislation regarding Washington State lands, and opposition by the coalition and other environmental organizations to a proposed hydroelectric project in the Chelan district of the Wenatchee National Forest.

Scope and Content: Correspondence primarily of Karen Fant (Co-Director with Ken Gersten, 1979-1984, Executive Director 1984-1990), minutes (1979-1981, 1983-1986), legislation, maps, subject series including correspondence and testimony, and related papers, 1979-1990. (bulk 1981-1986). Documents various environmental issues in Washington State in the 1980s, including forest planning and timber sales of national forests in Eastern Washington, wilderness legislation re Washington State lands and opposition by the Coalition and other environmental organizations to a proposed hydroelectric project in the Chelan district of the Wenatchee National Forest.
