Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Elmer Dow was born in Massachusetts and moved to Walla Walla in 1981 to attend Walla Walla College. He had had several careers, including boiler operation and locksmithing, before his decision to attend college and gain a bachelor's degree in journalism. After graduation he worked for several years in marketing and public relations in Walla Walla, and was employed by the Walla Walla Union Bulletin in January, 1988. At the newspaper he worked for the advertising department, and was responsible for publishing the three special publications; 55plus, Business Monthly, and the quarterly Ag Review, as well as annual special publications on various topics. His work for the Bulletin is evident through 1992. Dow married College Place local, Marie Newville, on December 16, 1990.

The Elmer Dow Photographs houses the photographs of Elmer Dow, an employee of the Walla Walla Union Bulletin advertising department from January, 1988, to the early 1990s, as well as a photographer for several other magazines including 55plus, Business Monthly, and the quarterly Ag Review. This collection, which dates from 1988 to 1992, consists of photographs and negatives relating to articles from all four publications, evidencing local people and events.
