Arthur J. Martin (1850-1937) was a publisher's representative in Portland, Oregon. He also wrote novels and short stories. His writings were often anti-Catholic in subject. Most were unpublished. Two autobiographical stories were written under the pseudonym John Ayres.

The collection contains manuscripts and issues of the Ku Klux Klan periodical The Oregon Patriot.

Manuscript titles include The Economy Club, Whom God Hath Joined, Dog Idolatry and Civilization, The Story of Florika, and Soul of Jezebel.

The two autobiographical stories written under the pseudonym, John Ayres are Rule or Ruin and Putting It Over.

With the manuscripts is a file of a Ku Klux Klan periodical, The Oregon Patriot, vol. 1-3, no. 9, vol. 4, no. 1-2 (1921-1924), published in Portland, Oregon.
