Historical NoteReturn to Top

The Provincial Archives of British Columbia (also known as the BC Archives) if the "oldest archival institution in Canada west of the Great Lakes". The institution was founded in 1894 as part of the Legislative Library in Victoria, BC by R.E. Gosnell. Throughout the early 1900's, the archives expanded and became an autonomous institution from the Legislative Library, opening to the public in 1920. Since 2003, the archives became a part of the Royal BC Museum.
