Historical NoteReturn to Top

William Leslie Josslin (1905 - ) was born in Portland, Oregon. He was educated at Stanford and Harvard Law School. In the 1930s, Josslin was a prominent figure in the legal and political activities in Oregon. He was one of the founders of the Young Democratic Club, he served as Deputy district attorney of Multnomah County, and as private secretary to Governor Charles Martin from 1935-1938. He served the Democratic Party on the Central Committee, and directed political campaigns.

Later he was involved in criminology and law enforcement. He was a member of the Oregon State Parole Board. He also served on Wayne Morse's committee to draft the probation and parole laws enacted by the 1939 Oregon legislature. He was elected vice-president of the Oregon Prison Association in 1942, and in 1955, was appointed circuit judge pro tempore of Multnomah County Court.

In 1942 the spelling of his last name was changed legally to Josslin; it may have been spelled Goslin or Joslin previously.

In the 1960s Josslin was made chairman of the Multnomah County Bar Committee on World Peace through Law and headed a delegation from Oregon to the 1967 Geneva World Peace Through International Law conference.
