Biographical NoteReturn to Top
Ayinde Barrister (1948-2010) was a singer, songwriter, and musician from Lagos, Nigeria. As a child he would perform ajiwere music during Ramadan. After returning from military service, Barrister started his own musical group called the "Supreme Fuji Commanders" that consisted of 34 percussionists and vocalists. He was known for making popular Fuji music, a Nigerian musical genre that developed from the Islamic ajiwere music tradition. During his lifetime, Barrister composed various musical pieces and published a variety of LPs.
