The aim of the graduate certificate program in Global Trade, Transportation, and Logistics (GTTL) was to enable graduate students to augment their degree programs in preparation for careers that demand the combined knowledge of trade, transportation, and logistics. Particular attention was directed to the study of activities involved in the flow of goods from point of origin to point of consumption on a global scale. The wide range of issues addressed include the management of the intermodal connections among maritime, aviation, and overland modes of transport; environmental and energy concerns; advancements in telecommunications; and the legal, regulatory, and technological infrastructures that facilitate global commerce and transportation.

The program was overseen by the UW's Interdisciplinary Committee on Global Trade, Transportation, and Logistics. Comprised of members from the academic, private, and public sectors, this committee ensured that the certificate program was responsive to the needs of government and industry. Each spring the Global Trade, Transportation, and Logistics Studies Program sponsors held a one-day conference focused on international trade logistics issues. The conference brought together academics, students, and leaders from government agencies and industry to discuss the latest developments in the global trade network. The conference was open to the public and was held at the University of Washington's main campus in Seattle.

The GTTL Certificate Program was established on June 9, 1995. The Program ceased accepting applicants in January 2011 and closed operations on June 30, 2011.
