Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Hermeto Pascoal (1936-) is a composer, record producer, and musician from Alagoas, Brazil. He appeared in recordings in Brazil starting in 1964, but gained international attention in 1971 when he performed in Miles Davis' 1971 album Live-Evil. He plays the keyboard, accordion, melodica, saxophone, guitar, flute and other conventional instruments, but also is known to use objects such as teapots and toys to create music. He has been the lead in or featured in over 50 albums.

Tapes given to David Aaron Johnson by Jovina Santos Neto of Seattle; Johnson donated copies to the Archives 7/98 with Neto's permission.
