Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Dr. Emily Hanink is a recipient of a Jacobs Research Grant. She received her Ph.D. from the University of Chicago Department of Linguistics. She is currently a post-doctoral researcher in Department of Linguistics and English Language at the University of Manchester, UK.

Washo is a language spoken in the area around Lake Tahoe, California and Nevada. Less than 15 elderly native speakers remain and there are only about 5 native speakers in Washo Colony in Dresslerville, Nevada.

This collection consists of one flash drive with field notes and video recordings related to research on clausal nominalizations in Washo. The recordings are from trips made in December 2016 and June 2017 when Dr. Hanink worked with an elder of the tribe, Adele James (Pau Wa Lu), at the Washo Colony in Dresslerville, Nevada. This research forms a part of the Jacobs Research Funds.
