Historical NoteReturn to Top

Since its founding in 1898, the Oregon Historical Society has collected ephemera of all kinds, most of it documenting the history of Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. In the mid-20th century, librarians at the Society began organizing these materials into what became known as "Topical Collections." One such collection, the Associations and Institutions Collection, collated various items related to organizations of all kinds, primarily in Oregon. In some cases, original organizational records were added to the collection.

Content DescriptionReturn to Top

Collection created by the Oregon Historical Society containing materials relating to associations, institutions, and other organizations, primarily in Oregon and Portland. Includes programs, fliers, tickets, scrapbooks, reports, and other ephemera from clubs, fraternal organizations, museums, historical societies, and some public institutions. Although most of the materials are printed, some original organizational records can be found in the collection, including: scrapbooks from the Oregon Trail Chapter of the National Secretaries Association, 1955-1957; records of the Oregon Alpine Club, 1887-1898; scrapbooks of the Veterans of World War I in the United States, 1955-1976; records of the University Club of Portland, 1914-1915; scrapbook of Women of the Irvington Club, 1948-1978; and records of the Knights of the Maccabees, Falls City, Oregon chapter, circa 1891-1900. Also includes a substantial collection of masonic ephemera, including programs and pamphlets from the Al Kadar Shrine of Portland, Oregon.
