Historical NoteReturn to Top

In 1994, Missoulian local Sara Bruya, originator of “We Are Missoula: Thoughts on Change in a Growing Environment,” noticed a definite change in the demographics of the Missoula, Montana area. What began as an idea for a quarterly publication to chronicle cultural events and bring them to the public transformed into a book containing interviews of various Missoula residents. The focus of the interviews was to examine the role of the individual in the larger community and the reciprocal relationship of the community and the individual. Interviewed in the book are various local residents. Though Sara Bruya intended to represent all peoples from Missoula, the majority of interviewees were educated, communally involved, long term residents. It was a project of the Northern Lights Research and Education Institution, Inc. and published in 1995 by collaborators Sara Bruya, Kort Duce, and Jay Schweitzer. All the proceeds were donated to Five Valleys Land Trust.
