Biographical NoteReturn to Top

Alumna Alice Arnold Ash of Corvallis attended Oregon State Agricultural College in the early to mid-1930s and graduated in 1935 with a degree in Secretarial Science. She later married Roy V. Smith who was also an OSAC student during that time period.

This photographic collection consists of photographic prints collected and assembled by Alice Ash Smith documenting student activities during the 1930s. The collection includes images of football games and players, crew practices on the Willamette River, theater productions, dances, and other student activities and student groups including the Beaver Knights. Of particular note are images of several theater productions, the Junior Follies, and Robin Batcheller; football player, Art Ramponi; construction of the rook bonfire; and the Whiteside Theater in Corvallis. Programs for the Death Takes a Holiday (1933) and Junior Follies productions are also included.

Custodial History

Most of these photographs were sent by Alice Ash Smith to Catherine Davis Young Feikert (the widow of D. Palmer Young), who gave them to C.H. "Scram" Graham. Graham donated them to the OSU Archives in 1995. The remainder (about 20) were donated directly to the Archives by Smith in 1999.
