The collection contains materials gathered by E. Lee Crawford from the seven cases he represented western Oregon tribes from 1940-1955. Materials include pamphlets and documents from the cases, including petitions, plaintiff and defendant exhibits, and transcripts from hearings. Other materials include background information on the 1855 treaties and land values, and newspaper clippings regarding the claims cases.

Acquisition Information

The collection was received by the Siletz Cultural Center on February 22, 1991.

Separated Materials

Two storage boxes contain binders with additional information pertaining to unratified land cession treaties, land and resource values, and related cases. Other binders contain brief entries on western Oregon tribes describing historical and cultural background, first contact with white explorers and settlers, and removal to the Table Rock, Grand Ronde, and Coast Reservations.

Additional materials pertaining to the claims cases from 1940-1955 include the Claims Case Collection and Daniel Orton Papers Collection.
