The following band members contributed to the transcription and contextualization of the deposited materials: Vanessa Bozoki, Elizabeth Bjorklund, Patti Bjorklund, and Jaqueline Gouchie.

Historical BackgroundReturn to Top

The Lheidli T'enneh Band, also known as the Lheidli T'enneh First Nation and historically known as the Fort George Indian Band, is the First Nations band government for the Lheidli T'enneh, a subgroup of the Dakelh people whose traditional territory includes the City of Prince George, British Columbia. The name means "The People from the confluence of the two rivers" in the Carrier language referring to how the Nechako River enters the Fraser River at Prince George. (Source: “Lheidli T'enneh First Nation”, British Columbia Assembly of First Nations, web. Date Accessed: 04/13/2023)

The Carrier Sekani Tribal Council (CSTC) provides program, financial and technical support to six member First Nations. CSTC also coordinates Government to Government (G2G) negotiations between our member nations and the Provincial and Federal Governments. The combined population of CSTC’s member First Nations is over 5,000 people. The combined territories of the CSTC member First Nations is approximately 69,600 sq. km (6.96 million hectares), which is 7.4% of British Columbia. The member First Nations of the CSTG are: Ts'il Kaz Koh (Burns Lake Band), Nadleh Whut'en, Saik'uz First Nation, Takla Nation, and Wet'suwet'en First Nation.
